7 Oct 2008 - CAFOD Lunch

At last year’s CAFOD Family Fast, 40 children joined staff for soup and a roll and donated their dinner money to CAFOD – this year a massive 120 children joined their teachers in our school’s Family Fast! Fantastic!

This year’s event was made extra special because we were able to use our very own pumpkins to make the soup (although we did have tomato soup as a fall back for those who tried but who didn’t like the pumpkin!). Mrs Vella has been growing the pumpkins with groups of children and on Friday a number of Year 6 pupils helped her and a gang of willing volunteers turn our pumpkins into delicious soup.  Mrs Biggs was chief organiser, she bought all the other ingredients for the soup and to make bread too! Year 5 children helped to make the bread, Year 4 helped to serve and Year 3 helped to prepare the boots and shoes that are displayed around the entrance hall – every child that took part on Friday put their name on a cut out “boot” or “shoe” so that everyone knows that they walked in solidarity with the poor on Friday.

The staff bought all of the supplies and then joined the children for lunch – the event was a huge success with some parents joining in too.  It is important for all of our children to have opportunities to be involved in acts of social justice, allowing them to see that they can make a difference!  We raised a huge £243 which we will send to CAFOD. Well done everyone!
