7 Oct 2008 - Autumn Festivals

This term is packed full of religious festivals and as always we will be learning and celebrating in style!  We are currently in Ordinary Time in the Catholic Church’s Liturgical Year, this Season is marked by the colour green and will last until we reach The Season of Advent  which begins on 30th November, purple is the colour of Advent and this changes to gold or white as we celebrate The Christmas Season.  We will be celebrating the feast of All Saints at the beginning of November and this year we plan a special celebration for The Feast of St. Catherine on 23rd November!

This time of year sees many festivals in all the major religions and to mark this season of light our classes will each be producing an assembly. We are in Ramadan at the moment and this season ends with the celebration of Eid on 1st or 2nd of October, Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Light is celebrated on 28th October, Jewish New Year is September 30th, Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) on 9th October and Hanukkah is celebrated on 22nd December. In the Sikh calendar the Birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji is on November 13th.
